Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya opened up about how he struggled with education in the early stages of his life.

In a recent interview with Betty Kyallo, Salasya, candidly discussed his educational challenges and perspectives on marriage.

When I was growing I didn’t have a lot of things and that is why I was never serious with life. And that is why even when I started my education from primary to standard three I didn’t see the need for education. I was just a stubborn boy,” he said.

He attributed his lack of enthusiasm for education partly to the allure of the local sugar industry where he could make easy money at a young age.

At home we have sugar industry, this one they call them jaggeries – so we used to work and get money early. So you don’t see the need of going to school, work hard and all that. So that’s why I decided to take school aside and went to take care of the calves,” Salasya said.

Salasya revealed that he dropped out of school in fourth grade due to difficulties in reading and writing.

The firebrand lawmaker admitted that he stayed at home for two years because he was an academic dwarf and couldn’t keep up in class.

I stayed at home about two years, because now you see are in standard four you don’t know how to read, you don’t know how to write, you just there,” Salasya said.

“Like you dropped out of school in class four?” Betty Kyallo probed further.

“Yes in class four,” Salasya answered.

Hivyo tu, life ilikua ngumu because sasa kuandika composition ilikua shida,” Salasya explained.

Salasya however noted that he went back to school after the two-year hiatus because he realized he needed an education to succeed in life.

The Mumias East legislator completed his primary school education, joined high school, excelled in his final exams and ultimately joined Egerton University.

Marriage

Salasya also talked about why he is not married yet in spite of several women showing interest in being his wife.

The lawmaker noted that he is seeking a submissive wife who could stay in his rural home while he lives in Nairobi alone.
