Ezekiel Mutua has revealed that he once served as one of Uhuru Kenyatta’s communications advisors during his first presidential campaign in 2002 and predicted he would become president.

Mutua, who shared the revelation in a post marking Uhuru’s birthday on Sunday, October 26, 2025, said he worked closely with the then-young politician when he first made his bid for the presidency.

Mutua shared that the two were based at Chancery House in Nairobi during that campaign period. He recalled that despite Uhuru’s first attempt not succeeding, he remained confident that his client would one day become president.

Recalls time with Uhuru

“The year 2002: with my client Uhuru Kenyatta at Chancery House, Nairobi. I served as one of his communications advisors when he first ran for president. We didn’t make it in that first attempt, but I told my candidate that he would one day become president. Eleven years later, it came to pass. The rest, as they say, is history! Happy birthday, former President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Mutua said.

Mutua’s message highlighted his long-running relationship with Uhuru, dating back more than two decades. He described that period as a defining moment in his career, as it gave him a chance to work at the highest level of political communication.

Uhuru made his first attempt at the presidency in 2002 under the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party, losing to Mwai Kibaki of the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC).

Eleven years later, Uhuru made a comeback and won the presidency in 2013, serving two terms before leaving office in 2022.

Mutua’s recollection comes as many Kenyans sent birthday wishes to the former Head of State.

The statement also gave a rare glimpse into Mutua’s role in Kenya’s political history before he became widely known as the “moral cop” during his time at the Kenya Film Classification Board.

In his message, Mutua praised Uhuru’s journey from a young politician to becoming the fourth President of Kenya, saying his earlier prediction had come true.

He ended his message with warm birthday wishes, celebrating the milestone and reflecting on how far both of their careers had come since that campaign.
