Kenyan rapper and activist Henry Ohanga, known to many as Octopizzo, is full of praise for a stylish fashion event he attended at the French ambassador’s residence.

In a statement shared via his X account on Saturday, November 29, 2025, he said the night was elegant and full of creativity. He explained that the event brought together French hospitality and the fresh creative energy coming out of Kenya.

He also said they had meaningful conversations about the creative economy and how Kenya and France continue to grow a strong cultural relationship. For him, the evening proved that culture can bring countries closer.

“Last night’s Fashion Evening at the French Ambassador’s Residence was a refined showcase of elegance and cultural sophistication. Hosted by Balozi @arnaud_suquet, the night seamlessly blended French hospitality with Kenya’s creative energy. We had purposeful conversations around the power of the creative economy & the growing symbiotic relationship between Kenya & France @FranceinKenya. A luxurious night of style, artistry, and diplomacy proving once again that when culture leads, nations connect,” he stated.

Women empowerment

The French Embassy also highlighted one of the projects it is supporting during the 16 Days of Activism campaign. In an update posted on Friday, the embassy talked about the Mukuru Slums Development Project, a women-led organisation that France supported in 2024 and 2025 through its feminist program called Decid’Her.

The embassy said the project is helping women in Mukuru gain opportunities and improve their lives. It added that new street lights have been installed, safe routes have been mapped out, emergency response teams have been set up, and a reporting system that works all day and night is now in place. These steps are meant to make the area safer for women and the community.

The embassy said it will keep working with local groups to support women and push for a society free from violence.

“As we continue observing #16DaysOfActivism, meet the Mukuru Slums Development Project, a women-led empowerment organisation that 🇫🇷France supported in 2024-25 through our flagship feminist program, “Decid’Her.” 💪The Mukuru Slums Development Project creates pathways to opportunity, helping women uplift themselves and their communities.

🔆 Street lighting has been installed, safe routes have been mapped, emergency response teams have been formed, and a 24/7 reporting system has been established. Through our feminist diplomacy and in partnership with local CSOs through our “Decid’Her” project, 🇫🇷🤝🇰🇪 France stands with Kenya to create a violence-free society,” the French Embassy wrote on X on Friday.
