Nurse Judy explains why female friendships are difficult

Media personality and businesswoman Nurse Judy has admitted that female friendships are not easy to maintain.
In an Instagram statement on Sunday, September 21, 2025, Judy noted that many women often struggle with jealousy and competition when it comes to relating with each other. She said she does not understand why women feel the need to compete instead of supporting one another.
“Why am I the only one who is never in a competition with other women? Mimi, I’m the type who gets excited seeing another woman looking stunning, all dressed up, and I will go ahead and compliment them genuinely, not the fake ones that most women do,” she remarked.

Judy added that she has always encouraged other women to embrace beauty and confidence without fear of being judged. “Mimi, my own housegirl, used to dress up. I personally used to get her gorgeous outfits too.
“My aunties and friends used to complain about her looking good and dressing well, but honestly, I don’t care,” she said.
She explained that she believes in uplifting women regardless of their status, insisting that appearance and style should be celebrated, not criticised.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, as long as you are a woman, just look gorgeous. Dress up if you love to; never diminish yourself. Period,” she emphasised.

Women and competition
Nurse Judy’s comments come at a time when conversations around women’s empowerment and solidarity remain a key issue in society.
Many women have spoken openly about the challenges of dealing with rivalry, gossip, and mistrust within female circles, with some saying it prevents them from forming meaningful friendships.
Judy’s experience highlights a perspective that encourages women to break away from negative competition and instead focus on building each other up. Her example of buying clothes for her house help and celebrating her beauty shows her commitment to this belief.
Celebrating confidence
The outspoken personality’s sentiments underline the importance of self-expression and confidence among women. By urging women not to hold back and to embrace looking their best, Judy has reignited discussions on how women view each other in social spaces.
According to Nurse Judy, female friendships may be difficult, but choosing to celebrate instead of competing could make all the difference.
