Media personality turned politician Phelix Odiwour, alias Jalang’o is set to quit doing club events after being elected Member of Parliament.
He was declared the winner of the Lang’ata Parliamentary seat after garnering 38,948 votes, beating the incumbent MP Nixon Korir, who polled 36,836 votes.
No club gigs
In an update on his Instagram page, Jalang’o noted that his new job has forced him to cancel some of his duties as an entertainer.
The media personality said, moving forward, he will no longer be hosting club events citing unavailability of time for such events.
“My new job comes with a lot of responsibilities and times of clubs might not be there anymore,” Jalang’o wrote.
However, Jalang’o did not rule out working on radio noting that with a morning show that ends at 9 am he would be able to deliver his parliamentary duties.
“For now Langata is my No. 1 priority! Delivery of our manifesto and the promises we made to the electorate
“Radio is my love and if I get a morning show that ends by 9 so that I can make it for bunge on time then why not? I know many MPs who still do their jobs and deliver for their constituency,” he added.
Endorsements
Jalang’o stated that he will still be doing products endorsements with his constituents working with the companies seeking his services.
He said young men drawn from Lang’ata would be the ones doing among other things filming and concept development.
The radio presenter added that for companies to work with him, they must commit to support a community project in his constituency.
“We will actually be now working with the young people of Langata in concept development and filming! I want to train as many young people as possible in our resource centers
“For me to be a brand ambassador of your product you must commit to take up and support a community project in Langata,” Jalang’o said.
Jalang’o and Nixon Korir
Incumbent MP Nixon Korir conceded early defeat to Jalang’o in the hotly contested election.
In his message, Korir thanked the people of Lang’ata for giving him an opportunity to serve as their MP for the last five years.
“To the people of Langata, I sincerely thank you for according me an opportunity to be your Member of Parliament for the last 5 years. Its been a great opportunity that gave me an avenue to contribute to our nation building and service to the people,” he wrote.
Korir noted that from the results tallied at his command center, chances of him defending his seat were low.
“From the results that we’ve tallied at the Generali centre, my competitor Jalango has a lead and I want to congratulate his as he prepares to take the mantle and move Langata forward. Siasa si chuki. God bless Langata,” he added.
