Heartbroken Betty Bayo’s mother honours her legacy in an emotional tribute

A grieving Joyce Mbugua, mother of the late gospel singer Betty Bayo, delivered a deeply emotional tribute to her daughter, painting a portrait of a loyal, God-fearing woman whose short life transformed her family and touched generations.

Speaking online on Sunday, November 16, 2025, during the memorial service of the late singer, Joyce described her youngest child as a gift God confirmed to the world, recalling how early Betty’s spiritual foundation was laid.

“Betty, you loved the Lord, and I introduced you to Him as a small girl. By age 12, her daughter was already leading others in worship and fasting,” she revealed through a livestream tribute.

Joyce, who is currently in the US, recounted the moment she realised Betty carried a divine calling.

“I remember when you shared with me that you keep hearing songs within you. After praying together, a confirmation that you have a gift in you, that gift blossomed in 2009 when Bayo began her gospel music journey, rising to become a recognisable voice across the country,” the mother narrated.

Devoted daughter

Beyond music, Joyce portrayed Betty as a devoted daughter whose generosity reshaped her mother’s life.

“You took me from the village to Runda Estate. You insisted on providing for me and ensuring I lacked nothing,” she said.

Moreover, even after Joyce asked to return home, Betty continued caring for her, eventually building her a modern house and planning her relocation to the United States.

“Your life may have been short, but you beautified my life more than I could ever imagine,” she said.

Message for Bayo’s children

Joyce also shared a message of strength with her grandkids during their difficult moment.

“You may not replace your mom’s thoughts in my heart, but when I see you, I remember the bond and love we shared. Please remember that Grandma loves you,” she said.

Her tribute carried an agonising confession that exposed the depth of her loss,

“No mother should ever have to go through this experience. Yet even in pain. I say what you could have said, it is God’s will,” she asserted.
