Pastor Kanyari reveals why he has not yet joined any political party

Pastor Victor Kanyari has explained why he has not joined a political party despite preparing to contest the Kasarani parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in a video shared on his social media page on Friday, August 21, 2026, Kanyari said he has not committed himself to either the WANTAM or TUTAM political formations.
The preacher said his focus at the moment is on engaging with residents, understanding their challenges and supporting them before deciding which political party to work with.
Kanyari wants to listen to voters
Kanyari said he wants to spend more time on the ground before making a decision on his political affiliation.
According to the preacher, joining a political party should not come before understanding what residents need and finding ways to address their problems. “I have not yet joined any political party, whether WANTAM or TUTAM, because my priority right now is to be on the ground, connect with the people, understand their challenges and help the community with the little I can,” Kanyari said.

He added that leadership should be based on service rather than party colours. “Leadership is not only about party colours; it is about serving, listening and making a difference where you can,” he said.
Kanyari rules out UDA
The preacher said he plans to ask residents which party they would prefer him to join when the time comes.
Kanyari mentioned the decision would be guided by the views of people on the ground rather than his personal preference. “I haven’t talked about anything concerning a political party, but come January I’ll ask people which party I should join. If people say it’s the DCP, I’ll go there or any other political party, but I can’t join UDA,” he said.
He also said his immediate focus was on identifying practical solutions to problems affecting Kenyans, stating further that he wants to support people dealing with difficult circumstances, particularly those struggling with stress and depression.
“I will help people and ensure no one dies of stress or depression because people are really struggling with problems,” he said.

Kanyari changes political plans
Kanyari’s latest remarks come as he continues to prepare for the 2027 elections after changing his earlier plan to seek the Njiru Ward MCA position. The preacher announced his intention to contest the Kasarani MP seat during a church service on April 12, 2025.
At the time, Kanyari asked his congregation whether he should pursue the MCA position or seek a parliamentary seat. His supporters backed the latter option. Following the response, he announced his decision to contest for the Kasarani parliamentary seat.
“Kasarani Constituency, get ready; in 2027 I’m vying for MP Kasarani,” Kanyari said.
Since then, he has continued engaging with residents as he prepares for the race. For now, Kanyari says his political party decision will come later, with the views of residents expected to play a key role in determining his next move.
