Grammy Award-winning Rapper KayCyy returns to Kenya after 17 years
US-based Grammy Award-winning Kenyan rapper Mark Makora Mbogo, famously known as KayCyy, has made a long-awaited return to Kenya after 17 years abroad.
The artiste, known for his collaborations with international stars and his unique style that blends Kenyan roots with global hip-hop, arrived in the country on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, to reconnect with family, fans, and the local music scene.

KayCyy was warmly welcomed by Maasai traditional dancers, accompanied by his family and friends, in a colourful celebration that highlighted Kenyan culture and his homecoming.
Speaking to the press at the Airport shortly after jetting in, he disclosed that he was nervous and, at the same time, excited to come back home after so many years abroad.
“This is a real homecoming. I feel like I’m back home, feet on the ground. I’m dancing with my people, Kenya to the world,” KayCay said.
“I was nervous and excited because it has been so long, it has been like 17 years. I have not been at home, and just to be back is like you have just left, going to America for the first time, and you are now coming back.”

The award-winning rapper further disclosed that he is working with a number of Kenyan artistes in his upcoming album.
“I’m working on a new album. Shout out to Bein and everyone that is helping me out, the whole crew of Sauti Sol, am definitely ready for it, it is coming out soon and that is why I had to come back home to make it all make sense,” he disclosed.
“Kenyan music is about to go to the next level.”
He went on and promised his Kenyan fans he would be performing at several shows during the festive season.
“I have a lot of shows coming up around December,” he added.

KayCyy is a Grammy-winning Kenyan-born artiste. Born in Keroka, Kisii County, he moved with his family to the United States at an early age.
