Kenyan comedian turned activist Eric Omondi has promised unemployed youths job opportunities.
Taking to his Instagram page, Omondi urged all youths facing unemployment to attend a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 26, at 8:30 am at the Blue Springs Hotel, located on Thika Road opposite Gardens City.
“A few days ago, we called upon all graduates who had no jobs, and the numbers were enormous, tuko na suluhisho, if you are a graduate looking for a job, an entrepreneur or have an idea, tukutane kesho 8.30 am pale Blue Springs,” Omondi announced.
“If you are a graduate without a job come to Blue Springs Hotel Thika Road opposite Gardens City tomorrow. We are meeting at 8:30 am usichelewe!!! Iko kazi!!! Kazi iko!!!! We are going to provide employment and job opportunities to all our brothers and sisters. We have already acquired numerous jobs from Kenyans of goodwill,” he captioned the video.
Omondi fighting for jobs
In March 2023, Eric Omondi was arrested along Uhuru highway as he attempted to deliver his CVs to the State House.
In a video captured by K24 Digital, Omondi was seen sweating as he pushed a cart filled with boxes of his CVs.
The police intercepted him, swiftly taking him into custody.
This incident marked Omondi’s third brush with the law.
Earlier that month, he was apprehended for distributing maize flour at City Stadium along Jogoo Road in Nairobi. Police alleged that he was exchanging the flour for support on a journey to State House.
Omondi defended himself, claiming he was simply aiding fellow Kenyans by providing food.
Prior to this, Omondi was arrested for organizing demonstrations at Parliament, protesting against the soaring cost of living.
Alongside 16 others, he was brought before the court and released on a bond of Ksh20,000 or a cash bail of Ksh10,000.
In his activist role, Omondi called upon Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga to escalate protests, advocating for daily demonstrations.
He argued that constant pressure would compel the government to empathize with the financial struggles faced by Kenyans.
Omondi referenced government expenditure on luxuries like cars, contrasting it with the financial hardships of ordinary citizens.
“Ningependa kuomba the right honourable Raila Amolo Odinga. Tafadhali make the maandamano Monday to Monday every single day tuaribu kukuwe na holiday, no business should continue,” Eric said.
“Gachagua alisema serikali inapoteza na leo wamepewa pesa ngapi ya kununua magari? 802 million kubuy magari. Maandamano ikue kila siku serikali ikose pesa venye Wakenya wamekosa pesa. Ushaelewa? Wakenya hawana pesa.” he added
