Daddy Owen challenges Kenyans to reject ethnic voting in 2027
Gospel musician and disability activist Daddy Owen has called on Kenyans to rise above tribal politics and unite against what he describes as a self-serving political class.
In a statement shared via his X account on Friday, October 24, 2025, Daddy Owen said many Kenyans pretend to be progressive and tribeless, yet revert to ethnic alignments during elections.

He urged citizens to shift their focus from tribal divisions to collective action aimed at holding leaders accountable.
He said the 2027 General Election should not be defined by tribal alliances but by a united front of ordinary citizens, especially Gen Z and Millennials, standing together to challenge political elites.
“People here act woke, saying they’re tribeless, but during election talk, it’s back to Kalenjin 91%, Kikuyu 92%, Luo 76%. For 2027, it should be the people vs the political class, not tribe vs tribe. Or GenZ/Millennials vs the political class. That’s how you drain the swamp,” Daddy Owen said.
His sentiments come months after he had warned about the dangerous trend of divisive politics and online hostility targeting specific communities.

In a statement made in January 2025, he expressed worry that such behaviour, coupled with rising cases of abductions and constant political bickering, could undermine Kenya’s peace and stability.
He cautioned that the country was drifting toward a perilous path and urged Kenyans to safeguard unity and coexistence.
“As a nation, we are dangerously flying too close to the sun. The re-emergence of the regional sects, divisive online sentiments against Somalis, abductions, & relentless politicking are pushing Kenya into a perilous state, threatening the stability & unity of this great nation,” he said.
The artiste’s remarks come as political temperatures are slowly rising as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections.
