Geoffrey Mosiria says encouraging jobless youth is part of his job
Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Customer Engagement and Citizen Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has said engaging with citizens and encouraging unemployed young people is a key part of his role as a public servant.
In a social media post shared on Friday, August 7, 2026, Mosiria also urged leaders to take time to interact with members of the public instead of keeping their distance.
“Jifunze kuishi na watu, kama wewe ni kiongozi ukiona wananchi mahali, take your time, talk to them, guide them. Hiyo ndio kazi yangu, citizens engagement na kuwapa moyo haswa those jobless. Ipo siku itajipa!” he wrote.
According to Mosiria, leadership is not only about holding public office but also about being accessible, listening to people and offering guidance, especially to those who are unemployed and may need encouragement.
His remarks reflect his continued emphasis on citizen engagement, which has become a defining feature of his public service. Through his interactions with residents, Mosiria has often encouraged young people to remain hopeful and pursue opportunities despite the challenges of unemployment.
Mentoring future leaders
Besides engaging with residents, Mosiria has also spoken about the importance of mentoring the next generation of leaders.
Mosiria, who hosted an aspiring Kenyatta University Students’ Organisation (KUSO) president, Mary Joy, alongside her deputy and personal assistant, as part of his efforts to support students interested in leadership, said that veteran leaders have the responsibility of mentoring the youth.
“I believe that, as leaders, we have a responsibility to mentor young leaders, especially university students,” Mosiria said.
He added that he looks forward to supporting Mary Joy and many other students aspiring for leadership positions through mentorship and guidance.
“I had the opportunity to host Mary Joy, an aspiring KU president, accompanied by her deputy and PA. I look forward to supporting them, and many other students aspiring for leadership positions, through mentorship,” he added.
SONU’s leadership
Mosiria said his passion for mentoring stems from his own experience as a student leader at the University of Nairobi under the Students’ Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU).
“I believe in giving back because I once served as a student leader at the University of Nairobi under SONU, and I understand the importance of guidance, mentorship and leadership development,” he said.
The Nairobi county official has consistently used his platform to encourage youth participation in leadership, civic responsibility and community service, saying experienced leaders have a duty to nurture and inspire the next generation.
