Content creator Cassypool has opened up about his diverse East African roots, insisting that he is a pure Sudanese with deep family ties across the region.

Speaking during an interview with Obinna TV Extra on Monday, December 1, 2025, Cassypool stated that many people are unaware of his true heritage.

“One thing you don’t know, my brother Obinna, mimi ni Msudanese. My village is in Bahr el Ghazal, a place called Wau. Just the other day, I took KRG the Don and CMB Prezzo to my village, where my great-great-grandfather was born,” he said.

He explained that his lineage stretches across several countries within the East African Community (EAC).

“I am pure Sudanese. I have an extended family in Gulu, a family in Kasipul, and a family in Tarime, Tanzania. We are one thing, one family, the East African Community,” he said.

Further, he revealed that his full name, Yakub Maalim Mwinyi, reflects the cultural blend that shapes his identity. He said his mentor, Abdi Weri, the chairman of BBS Mall, is also part of his extended family.

“BBS Mall ni yetu, ni ya babangu. He is from Somalia, and there also I have family,” he said.

The entertainer further revealed that his mother’s lineage traces back to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“My mum, ukoo yake inatoka DRC Congo mahali inaitwa Goma, na wako na familia Rwanda,” he added.

Additionally, the entertainer said his mixed heritage influences the political leaders he supports across the region. He backs South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir for bringing peace to his people in Bahr el Ghazal and Wau.

“The reason why I support Salvar Kiir, amepeana amani to my people in Bahr el Ghazal and Wau; they are enjoying peace because of Salvar Kiir. The reason I support Yoweri Museveni is that he managed to flush out the rebels. The reason I support President William Ruto is that he is my president. Samila Suluhu is because I have a family in Tarime. That’s my decision; you don’t force me to support the person you want. I don’t feel guilty because I know I’m on the right path,” he said.
