Musician Benson Mutua Muia, also known as Bensoul, has announced that he will begin focusing on his brand Sudah Nation exclusively.
Speaking during a recent interview, Bensoul said that he was on a contract with Sol Generation for a term of five years, but was coming to an end in February 2024.
Sol Generation kick-off
While the initial weeks as a Sol Generation member were difficult, he attributes his success to Sauti Sol and the team for giving him this opportunity.
Bensoul who has been under the Sol Generation umbrella, revealed how he began his journey with Sauti sol citing that their first encounter was during his days at Jamhuri session.
“By the time they were starting Sol Generation, they had come for so many of my shows. We became friends, tukaanza Sol Generation at a time yenye hawakuwa completely ready for hiyo label. Ilikuwa tu tujaribu tuone hii industry tutaipeleka wapi,” Bensoul said.
He would later become friends with them and started attending their sessions as a writer, he would later transition into their project.
“The first songs were very frustrating. Nakumbuka vile tuliproduce ‘Lucy’ the first week tulikuwa na 2 views pekee. And then later it started picking up, yaani mungu alifanya tu mambo yake. Ilikuwa imekasirisha Bien ata hakuwa anaongea hiyo masaa,” Bensoul added.
Kaskazini and Crystal
Bensoul explained why only two remained as finalists for Sol Generation, revealing that Kaskazini and Crysal left the team for different reasons.
“Each and everyone walikuwa for different reasons. For example for Kaskazini, Mmoja wao ndio alichoma kidogo ikabidi wamepewa option ya wakuje wakiwa wawili ama ikuwe ngumu tu, so waliaamua wachukuwe break, hapo kwa split ndiommoja akaamua kufanya mambo yake ya masomo, then hawa wengine wakaform sasa what is currently watendawili,” Bensoul stated.
Bensoul added that everyone from the team has good relations and whenever they meet up it’s always a good time and there is no bad blood.
“For Crystal, ilikuwa tu mambo za label. Label sio rahisi saa zingine kama artiste hafeel satisfied na label na pia label haifeel satisfied na artiste, contract tu inakuwa terminated. Sidhani kuna any bad vibes going around,” Bensoul added.
Nearing the lapse of his contract, Bensoul felt he was ready to handle things on his own and gel with Sol Generation as a separate entity handling other things on its own.
“Contract yangu ilikuwa ya five years, kutoka 2019 hadi February 2024. Tulikuwa na conversations za kama ni-extend. For me nilifeel sitaki kuextend, nilifeel nimefika kwa level flani kama artiste nafeel I need to be the CEO of my own companies and run my own thing,” Bensoul stated.
Bensoul said he is leaving at a time he feels he has gathered enough experience to run his label adding that things are already in motion to make the transition as smooth as possible.
