Akuku Danger reveals why he has chosen not to have children

Comedian Mannerson Ochieng, popularly known as Akuku Danger, has opened up about his deeply personal decision to remain childless.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, during an interview with a local TV station, Akuku Danger cited his lifelong battle with sickle cell anaemia as the main reason behind his decision.
The comedian said that while he is physically capable of having children, he has deliberately chosen not to, out of fear of passing on the genetic condition to the next generation.
“As a person, mimi saa hizi bado sina mtoto. It is not that I can’t; I can. But I choose to live a life yenye I have to be very keen on what happens around me. I can’t just go around cohabiting na madem hapa na pale. I wouldn’t want to bring another child in this world mwenye bado anaenda kuwa na the same condition,” he said.
Akuku Danger’s revelation comes as studies link sickle cell anaemia to high levels of childhood mortality in Kenya.
He went ahead to reveal that he has taken proactive steps, including medical screenings, to understand the risks. He noted that if he were ever to consider starting a family, he would only proceed after ensuring that his partner is not a carrier of the sickle cell gene.

Childless marriage
Akuku, however, noted that even if the screenings turn out to be positive, he will still not have a child since he has already made up his mind to remain childless in his marriage.
Elsewhere, a medical practitioner has advised Kenyans to test for sickle cell before choosing a marriage partner.
“It is my job to make sure that sickle cell dies with me, or if it is a must to procreate, we have to do the screening with the spouse tujue kama ako na hizo carrier. Kama hana, well and good. Tumeenda screening, but as a person, I have actually decided to have a marriage that is childless. Sitaki mtoto mimi,” he explained.
Akuku’s heartfelt revelation sheds light on the difficult choices many people living with genetic conditions face.
The comedian, who has been vocal about his health struggles, continues to use his platform both to entertain and to raise awareness about sickle cell anaemia, a condition that affects thousands of families in Kenya and beyond.
