Veteran Comedian cum Human Rights activist Eric Omondi has weighed in on the much anticipated President William Ruto’s X space engagement with Gen Z.
Speaking during an interview with a local media house on Thursday, July 4, 2024, Eric Omondi who has been at the forefront of criticising Ruto’s administration, said that as young people they are not willing to hold any discussion with the president.
The self-proclaimed president of comedy further revealed the public rejection of the proposed Finance Bill was a vote of no confidence with Ruto’s administration, adding that the Members of Parliament who supported the controversial Bill and the Head of State should resign.
“Hatutaki! Hatutajoin. Tumepangwa ya kutosha. Tunataka Ruto aende. Chochote wanasema hatukubali,” he said.
“Suluhu ya shida ya Kenya ni ikiwa Rais Daktari Ruto, waziri wake, na wale waliovote Yes watajiuzulu. It is a vote of no confidence.”
Eric Omondi further disclosed that Kenyans have been frustrated for a long time due to the high cost of living adding that the controversial Bill was only a trigger.
“Wakenya wamesema issue sio Finance Bill, Finance Bill tumetumia kuongea uchungu na matakwa yetu. Finance bill ni trigger tu. Hatutaki, hatukubali, tutambandua na tutatumia sheria,”he revealed.

On June 30, 2024, Ruto, during a media roundtable held at State House, disclosed that he is willing to engage with the young generation and come to an agreement.
The head of State further stated the discussion would be held on X Space as demanded by Gen Z who stated categorically that that’s the only environment they would be comfortable to air their grievances.
” I’m open and I promised that I would engage the young people through multi-sectoral forums. I have heard that they do not want a multisectoral forum, and maybe we should engage on X, and I’m open to talking with them on a forum they are comfortable with, I also promised the topics that I wanted us to discuss,” Ruto said.
Ruto’s talk with the young generation comes after a series of countrywide anti-government demonstrations by the youthful protesters who were against the proposed finance bill which had introduced an extra tax levy amid hard economic times.
