Wetang’ula shares gratitude for support as he prepares to lay his late mother to rest

The passing of Maayi Annah Nanyama Wetang’ula, mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, has sparked an overwhelming outpouring of support from friends, family, and the nation at large.

In an emotional statement on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Wetang’ula expressed his deep gratitude for the condolences and assistance that have flooded in since the loss of his beloved mother.

“I am deeply touched by the overwhelming support from our family, friends, and the public following the passing of our beloved Maayi Annah Nanyama Wetang’ula,” Wetang’ula said, acknowledging the profound impact of the loss on his family.

In a gesture of solidarity, Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, visited Wetang’ula’s home to offer his condolences.

Omollo’s visit was part of the ongoing preparations for the funeral, which is scheduled for January 3, 2025.

The event is expected to be attended by senior government officials, including President William Ruto, and will be a significant occasion for the Wetang’ula family and the nation.

“PS Omollo’s visit, accompanied by Hon. Onyango Koyoo of Muhoroni, demonstrated the government’s commitment to ensuring that my mother’s send-off will be both dignified and secure,” Wetang’ula noted.

“Ahead of the funeral, we have worked closely with security teams to ensure a smooth and safe process, ensuring Mama is given the respect and honour she deserves,” he added.

On his part, PS Omollo acknowledged that Mama Annah’s legacy and impact were evident during this mourning period.

“Mama Annah’s remarkable legacy and impact on her family and community is evident in the outpouring of respect and support during this solemn time.

“May her soul rest in peace, even as we pray that the family finds the strength to brave this profound loss,” Omollo wrote on X.

In addition to Omollo’s visit, Wetang’ula was joined by several prominent political figures, including Senator Wafula Wakoli of Bungoma, Mwambu Mabonga, and Speaker Emmanuel Sifuma of the Bungoma County Assembly.

These leaders were part of the ongoing discussions regarding the security arrangements and preparations for the upcoming funeral.

The upcoming burial of Maayi Annah Nanyama Wetang’ula is expected to be a momentous occasion, bringing together various political leaders, family, and friends in a final farewell to a beloved matriarch.
