Wetang’ula calls for equal focus on boychild empowerment

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged parents, communities, and institutions to give equal attention to the empowerment of the boy child, warning that continued neglect could have long-term consequences for the country’s social fabric.
Speaking during the fundraising meeting in aid of St Paul Bondet Catholic Church, Kobel Parish, Kericho Catholic Diocese in Bomet County on Sunday, August 3, 2025, noted that while efforts to uplift the girl child have made remarkable strides, the boy child has, in many instances, been left behind, particularly in areas of education and social development.
The speaker stressed that true national progress can only be achieved when both genders are empowered equally, and he called for a more balanced approach in family, school, and community settings.
Wetang’ula further emphasised the need for collaborative efforts between the government, the church, and the wider community to drive Kenya’s economic, social, and spiritual transformation. He noted that such partnerships are vital in creating a more just and inclusive society.
“I implored parents to ensure the boychild was not neglected in both education and social development, as has been the case where more focus has been put on empowering the girlchild,”Wetang’ula said.
“I stressed the importance of the Government, Community, and Church working together to bring economic, social, and spiritual transformation to the country, imploring the community to pray for Kenya and its leadership.”
His remarks come amid growing national conversations about the role of the boychild in modern society, with many leaders now acknowledging that addressing the imbalance is key to sustainable development.
Wetang’ula on Ruto’s leadership
Wetang’ula, who has been drumming up support for President William Ruto’s leadership, also took the chance to urge the residents to remain united and support the government’s development agenda for the benefit of all citizens.
He encouraged the people to rally behind Ruto’s administration and the broad-based government to advance the transformational initiatives promised during the 2022 campaigns.

Agriculture
He urged Bomet residents to continue taking advantage of government subsidies targeting the agricultural sector to boost their returns, noting that Bomet is an agricultural county.
“As Bomet is an agricultural county, I urged residents to continue taking advantage of government subsidies targeting the sector to boost their returns. This year alone, with the reduced cost of fertiliser from Ksh. 7000 to Ksh. 2500, a bumper harvest of an estimated 85 million bags of maize is expected. Further, the government continues to reform the tea and coffee sectors to even out bonuses awarded in different regions,” he stated.
