The Kenya Meteorological Department has released its weekly forecast for the period between August 5 and August 11, 2025.

In the forecast released on Monday, August 4, 2025, the weatherman has warned of continued cold weather, scattered rainfall in select regions, and strong winds across several parts of the country.

According to the forecast, a slight increase in rainfall is expected in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Coastal region, and parts of Northwestern Kenya.

Though the rains will remain scattered and not widespread, they may bring temporary relief for farmers and pastoral communities struggling with dry conditions.

“A slight increase in rainfall is expected in parts of Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Coast, and Northwestern Kenya. The showers will remain scattered but may provide temporary relief for farmers and rangelands,” a statement shared by the Kenya Meteorological Department via X read in part.

Cold and cloudy conditions

Cold and cloudy conditions will persist over the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Southeastern Lowlands, and some parts of the Rift Valley. The mornings and nights are expected to be particularly chilly, especially in high-altitude areas.

“Cold and cloudy conditions are likely in the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Rift Valley. Mornings and nights may feel especially chilly,” the statement read.

Daytime temperatures

In contrast, hot daytime temperatures, exceeding 30°C, will continue in Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya, while cold nights—dipping below 10°C—are forecast for areas in the Central Highlands, Southeastern Lowlands, and parts of the Rift Valley.

The Met Department has also warned of strong southerly to south-easterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (approximately 12.86 m/s), in the Coastal region, Kenya’s territorial waters, South-eastern Lowlands, and North-eastern and North-western Kenya. These winds may affect marine activities and raise dust in arid areas.

“Hot daytime temperatures (above 30°C) will persist across North-eastern and North-western Kenya, while cold nights (below 10°C) are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, SE Lowlands, and the Rift Valley. Strong southerly to south-easterly winds (>25 knots / 12.86 m/s) are expected across the Coast, Kenya’s territorial waters, SE Lowlands, NE, and NW,” the weatherman wrote on X.

Residents are urged to dress warmly, especially school-going children and the elderly, and to exercise caution on the roads due to fog and reduced visibility in the mornings.

Farmers are advised to take advantage of the intermittent rains where possible and plan their agricultural activities accordingly.
