Weatherman forecasts reduced rainfall this week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast reduced rainfall in most of the country from April 29 to May 3, 2025.

According to Kenya Met’s latest advisory released on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, the weatherman said that some regions, such as the Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley, South-eastern Lowlands, and the Coast, will still experience showers with sunny intervals.

“A general reduction in rainfall is expected this week, with showers likely over a few parts of the country,” the weatherman stated.

Residents in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley region are likely to experience morning rains, afternoon and evening showers with sunny intervals over several locations between Tuesday and Saturday.

The regions include Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot counties.

Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, will mainly experience sunny intervals with a chance of light rains over a few places in the morning, with nights being partly cloudy.

Counties in the south-eastern lowlands of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, Kenya Met predicts showers in the afternoon and night on Tuesday and Saturday, with mornings expected to be sunny.


In the last week, heavy rainfall was recorded in most parts of the country.

Temperature

The weatherman predicts that temperatures above 30°C are likely in the coastal region, northeastern and northwestern Kenya.

“Average daytime (maximum) temperatures above 30°C will prevail in the Coast, Northwestern, and Northwest Kenya; isolated areas of Western Kenya; and the Southwestern lowlands,” the weatherman predicted.

Chilly nights with temperatures below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley are also expected within the week.

“Average night-time (minimum) temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and around Mt Kilimanjaro,” the weatherman added.
