UDA Malava aspirant Enock Andanje collapses and dies

Enock Andanje, a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate in the upcoming Malava by-election, collapsed and died suddenly on Friday, August 15, 2025, during a widows’ empowerment programme attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
The incident sent shockwaves through the gathering, halting the session as organisers and participants struggled to respond to the tragedy.
CS Mudavadi confirmed Andanje’s death, pausing the programme to address the attendees.
“While we were seated here, I received news that one of us, Enock Andanje, has died,” he announced, prompting an immediate and sombre reaction from the audience.
Race for Malava seat
The UDA party is embroiled in a tight race to secure the Malava seat, which was held by the late Malulu Injendi before his passing on.
Some of the aspirants for the UDA ticket in the Malava by-elections are Malulu Injendi’s son, Ryan Injendi, David Ndakwa, Simon Kangwana, and Leonard Shimaka.
Democracy for Citizens Party’s Edgar Busiega is seen as a major threat to UDA in the race to succeed Injendi.
During the empowerment of widows in Malava on Friday, August 15, 2025, Mudavadi urged the UDA aspirants to stay within the party even after the nominations, noting that the government could absorb them in various capacities.
Unity calls
“We want to urge the aspirants for the UDA ticket to confirm to us that they will not run away from the party when they lose the nominations,” Mudavadi said.
“The government is big, and President William Ruto, together with me, will find for them a place to work,” he added.
He berated the DCP party as a small outfit with no legislators in the National Assembly, urging the people of Malava not to experiment with it.
“DCP is not even a parliamentary party; it does not even have an MP at the moment. Why would they want to conduct an experiment with the people of Malava?” Mudavadi posed.
“We have to stand firm with UDA to ensure that this seat goes back to UDA, where it was.”
