The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a major nationwide recruitment drive, unveiling more than 45,000 opportunities for teachers in both permanent and internship positions.

In its latest notice on X on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the commission is inviting applications for 21,313 vacancies across various categories to fill staffing gaps in schools nationwide.

The listed roles include chief principal, senior principal, principal, deputy principal, senior lecturer, senior master, secondary teacher 1, senior headteacher, headteacher, deputy headteacher, senior teacher, senior curriculum support officer and curriculum support officer.

24,000 internships for junior schools

In a separate statement, TSC also announced that it will recruit an additional 24,000 teacher interns for junior secondary schools, starting in August 2025. This second phase of recruitment is part of efforts to support the rollout of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and address staffing shortages in junior schools. The internship positions will be distributed across the country, with detailed breakdowns of vacancies per county and sub-county set to be published ahead of the recruitment period.

“The Teachers Service Commission invites applications from qualified candidates to fill 24,000 teacher internship posts in Junior Schools to support the implementation of Competency Based Curriculum,” TSC said.

The application portal for the internship programme will open on August 26, 2025, and remain active until midnight on September 9, 2025. Applicants will be required to submit their information and supporting documents through the online system within the specified dates. The commission has encouraged candidates to apply early to avoid last-minute technical challenges that could hinder submission.

Boost to education sector

With many institutions struggling with shortages, especially in rural and marginalized areas, the additional teachers and interns are expected to enhance the quality of education and provide learners with greater individual attention.

The large-scale hiring signals a strong commitment by the government to strengthen the teaching workforce in line with ongoing education reforms and the effective implementation of the CBC in schools nationwide.
