A train collided with a truck along the Pamusu-Lusaka Road in Bungoma County on Monday morning, November 24, 2025.

The accident occurred at Pamusu Junction, where the highway intersects the railway line.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver attempted to cross the railway tracks while the train approached, but lost control, causing the collision. They added that the train crew sounded the horn to warn the driver, but he did not respond in time.

Traffic police and emergency responders quickly arrived to manage the scene and provide assistance.

Festive travel accidents

The festive season, notorious for increased travel, appears to have contributed to the rise in accidents. This incident follows a series of tragic crashes in recent days.

On Sunday, November 23, 2025, three people, including two men and a woman, died in a fatal accident at Mua Bridge near Kyumbi Market along the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway in Machakos County.

Athi River East Sub-County Police Commander Anderson Mbae confirmed that the deceased were a 32-year-old female passenger, the matatu driver, and a 51-year-old male passenger.

Similarly, on Friday evening, November 21, 2025, a speeding lorry collided with a stationary 14-seater matatu at Ngoluni Market along the Itangini-Tawa Road in Makueni County.

Mbooni East Sub-County Police Commander Eprhahim Karani said the lorry hit the matatu from behind while passengers were boarding, leading to multiple casualties.

According to National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) statistics, Kenya recorded 3,890 road fatalities from January to October 2025, slightly higher than 3,805 deaths during the same period in 2024.

The fatalities include pedestrians, drivers, pillion passengers, pedal cyclists, and motorcyclists.
