Three people of Somali origin have been arrested in Lagdera, Garissa County while in possession of an assortment of illegal weapons.
Among the weapons police seized from the three men on Monday, March 29, were nine AK-47 rifles, 2,104 bullets, and 20 litres of petrol.
Lagdera police said that they were on the Baraki-Maalmin Road on their way to pay National Police Reservists when they spotted the three men in a white Toyota Succeed car.
Police said the occupants behaved suspiciously when they were commanded to pull over their vehicle.
Instead of complying with the police directive, the driver drove into the bush.
A multi-agency team from nearby security stations in Mogodashe, Afweini, and Maalmini was mobilized to track and arrest the suspects.
The officers included agents from the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit.
The suspects were later cornered about 40km south of the CCM Lagdera Police Station by two officers who were using their personal vehicle, the police revealed in their report.
Investigations have been launched to establish what the suspected Al-Shabaab militants were targetting for an attack.
