Public transport operator Super Metro has been suspended from operating for three more days by the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB).

This follows a meeting between Super Metro and the regulators on Monday, April 14, 2025.

In a statement, Super Metro revealed that they had been suspended for the next three days to finalize the remaining compliance measures.

“Super Metro Limited wishes to inform the public and our valued customers that we have achieved 90% compliance with the directives issued by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB). We remain committed to fully adhering to all regulatory requirements to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our passengers,” Super Metro stated.

“Following a hearing with the Transport Licensing Appeals Board today, the Board has directed Super Metro Limited to suspend operations for the next three days to finalize the remaining compliance measures.”

This comes a couple of days after a matatu belonging to the sacco rammed into a lorry along Thika Road on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

“Super Metro Limited fully respects the decisions of the TLAB and the court. We are working diligently to address the outstanding compliance issues within the stipulated timeframe and will resume operations as soon as we receive approval from the relevant authorities. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this temporary suspension may cause to our customers and stakeholders. Super Metro Limited remains dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transport services, and we appreciate your understanding and support during this period,” Super Metro added.

On March 24, 2025,  the Transport Licensing Appeal Board gave the transport company the green light to resume operations immediately.

“An interim order is hereby issued staying the execution/enforcement/ operation of the decision of the respondents dated March 18, 2025, suspending the operation of the appellant herein Super Metro Sacco Limited as a PSV operator,” the order by board chairman Adrian Kamotho read in part.

Super Metro was initially suspended on March 20, 2025, by NTSA, which cited the transport company for various violations by the operator, including expired inspection certificates and road service licences, expired speed limiter certificates, lack of speed limiter records and vendor details among others.
