The weatherman has warned that areas in South Rift, Nyanza and Central Rift will experience heavy rainfall of at least 30mm in the next 24 hours, beginning Friday, November 29.

“The heavy rainfall is likely to spread to other parts of Central Kenya, Nairobi, South East lowlands on Tuesday, December 3,” said the Kenya Meteorological Department in an advisory dated November 29.

Narok, Kajiado, Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru, Migori, Nyamira, Kisii, Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya have been listed as areas that will receive a heavy downpour.

Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Machakos and Makueni will also be hit by heavy rains.

“Residents in all the mentioned areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods,” said the Kenya-MET.

“Flood waters may suddenly appear even in places where it has not rained heavily and can be deeper and faster than they look, especially in semi-arid and urban areas,” added the weatherman.

“Residents are advised to avoid driving through, or walking in moving water or open fields, and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to avoid exposure to lighting strikes,” said Kenya-MET.
