Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will be under 24-hour guard by anti-terrorism police officers while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital, K24 Digital has learnt.
DCI detectives are seeking to hold Sonko in custody for 30 days to allow investigations into his alleged involvement in financing terror activities in Kenya.
The application by the DCI could not be heard on Tuesday at the Kahawa Law Courts after Sonko’s legal team said the suspect was not medically fit to stand the session.
A doctor’s report is expected in court on Wednesday, February 10, when a comprehensive status on Sonko’s health will be shared.
It is expected that the DCI’s application to detain Sonko for 30 days will be heard thereafter.
Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) officers will guard Sonko at Nairobi Hospital until his discharge, K24 Digital understands.
