Activist Shakira Wafula has resigned from the David Maraga Presidential Campaign’s Political Committee, bringing an unexpected twist to the campaign’s internal operations only months after she was appointed to the team.

In a public statement issued on Monday, November 17, 2025, Wafula expressed gratitude for having served in the committee but announced that she would be stepping down with immediate effect, citing a divergence in values and priorities within the campaign’s leadership.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served on the Political Committee within the David Maraga Presidential Campaign,” Shakira wrote.

Wafula noted that her close involvement with the campaign had given her firsthand insight into the inner workings of political organising, the demands of public service, and the need for governance anchored on integrity and accountability.

She explained that while the campaign champions the message “Reset, Restore, and Rebuild,” truly realising those ideals required a deeper and more consistent alignment on foundational principles, an alignment she no longer felt existed.

“My proximity to the campaign secretariat has provided valuable, real-time insight into how our politics function and the steps we must collectively take to build a better Kenya; one that genuinely upholds the rule of law, accountability, and good governance,” Shakira wrote.

She stated that her decision was guided by reflection and a desire to uphold consistency in the values she considers essential for public service, adding that she hoped her departure would spark meaningful introspection within the wider Maraga team.

“As our paths diverge on key values, priorities, and decisions within the campaign, I hope that my departure encourages thoughtful restructuring and strengthens the campaign’s commitment to good governance. My sincere wish is that we truly reset and restore Kenya,” she said.

Wafula then extended warm wishes to the remaining team members, noting that she remains committed to a Kenya where ethical leadership and accountability are non-negotiable pillars of governance.

“I would like to extend my best wishes to the remaining members of the Political Committee and Campaign at large. May your work be guided by integrity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to serving the people of Kenya,” she added.

Strategic communications team

Her resignation opens fresh scrutiny into the internal coherence of the Maraga campaign, which has been positioning itself as a youth-friendly, value-driven movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The latest development comes nearly four months after former Chief Justice David Maraga unveiled the seven-member communications team in which Wafula served.

In a statement released on Monday, July 28, 2025, Maraga announced the formation of the communications unit as part of efforts to streamline messaging and enhance engagement with supporters nationwide.

The team comprised Carolyne Kiarie, Gloria Michira, Lewis Ngunyi, Nyamisa Chelagat, Shallet Kutment, Shakira Wafula, and Susan Lumumba.

“We wish to express our gratitude for the continued feedback from sections of Kenyans on the need to streamline our team’s communication strategy. After collecting suggestions from Kenyans and consulting internally, we have set up the following communication channels affiliated to the David Maraga Campaign: Facebook: @DavidMaraga27, X/Twitter: @David Maraga27, Instagram: @dkmaraga_, TikTok: @dkmaraga, and YouTube: @dkmaraga,” the statement said.

During the same announcement, Maraga also launched new official communication channels for his 2027 presidential campaign, outlining verified social media handles on Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, together with a revamped campaign website designed to provide updates on grassroots activities, fundraising efforts, and media engagements.

“Powered by your energy and enthusiasm, we are ready for the journey ahead. We will have good days, and we will have days when we should have done better. But our commitment is that, as the CJ Emeritus said, We will not let you down,” the statement added.
