Senator Orwoba rejects future nominations, officially declares bid for Bobasi MP seat

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has officially announced her bid for the Bobasi parliamentary seat.
She strongly rejected any future nominations, stating that this is the last time she is serving in a nominated capacity.
Orwoba expressed her deep appreciation to her party leader, President William Ruto, for holding her hand and supporting her nomination to the Senate.
She recalled a conversation they had shortly after her nomination, where the president urged her not to waste the opportunity but to use it to serve her people and her party, a call she says she has faithfully honoured.
“I don’t want to be nominated again. I appreciate this nomination. I appreciate my party leader, Amenijenga. He gave me a hand up. I remember him having a conversation with me, telling me, ‘Do not waste this opportunity. Work hard. Serve your people. Serve your party.’ And that is exactly what I have done,” she said while speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, May 16, 2025.
Orwoba added that President Ruto also warned her against the trend where some leaders enjoy their salaries for five years after being nominated, only to return and seek another nomination without having done anything meaningful or using the opportunity to advance their political careers.
“Na akaniambia, ‘Usiende huko ukuwe kama hao wengine wenye wanachukua mishahara, wanakuja tena kuitisha nomination ingine,’” she revealed.
Ruto’s advice to Orwoba

Senator Orwoba further stated that she followed the president’s advice and has now decided to enter elective politics.
According to her, the people of Bobasi have seen and felt the work she has done as a nominated senator, particularly her efforts in championing development in the constituency.
She is now seeking their support to be elected as their MP in 2027.
“Hopefully, in 2027, my Bobasi people, having seen the work I have done and how I’ve championed development in the constituency, will support me. I am ready to meet my opponents in the race,” she declared.
Orwoba’s woes with UDA
This comes at a time when Orwoba is facing a difficult period with her party.
She has now been summoned by the party’s disciplinary committee over allegations of gross misconduct and is at risk of losing her seat as a nominated senator.
Her stance on the government’s Kazi Majuu programme has put her at odds with the party, with colleagues accusing her of disloyalty.

In recent weeks, Orwoba has been seen in the company of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as they tour the Kisii region, reportedly to popularise Matiang’i’s bid for the presidency in the 2027 general election.
