Salasya shares photos of house built for him by supporters in 2022

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya, on Monday, June 2, 2025, shared a glimpse of a house constructed for him by his supporters in the lead-up to the 2022 general elections.
In a statement, the 35-year-old legislator reminisced about his second stab at the constituency politics, noting that his supporters, who had noticed that he had no house decided to set up one for him.
“March 27, 2022, just four months to the election, I had no house, and this was my house. The great people of Mumias East came and helped me to construct it,” Salasya revealed.
Upcoming mansion
“I am thinking that after the completion of the mansion, this house should not be demolished since it was constructed by my great constituents, though landscaping will be needed. Never ignore your small beginning, just do your part and let God do the remaining.”
Salasya broke into national fame after he floored seasoned politicians in the hotly-contested Mumias East constituency MP seat in 2022.

Salasya, who had defected from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party to Eugene Wamalwa’s Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), emerged the winner with 12,140 votes against his closest competitor, David Wamatsi, who garnered 9,043 votes.
“I can’t believe that I am now headed to Nairobi to represent the people of Mumias East as their next Member of Parliament. My opponents called me names and claimed I was a madman because I was campaigning on foot for lack of a vehicle,” Salasya said as he was handed the victory certificate at the Shianda Polytechnic in 2022.
Difficult past
The youthful legislator had unsuccessfully vied for the Mumias East MP seat in 2017, but came third after being floored by his predecessor, Benjamin Washiali, who did not vie in the 2022 polls.

In his previous social media posts, Salasya has indicated that he is pro-youth empowerment, an initiative which has seen him traverse various regions in the country in what appears to be a presidential ambition in the 2027 election.
“Every young person who dares to dream deserves a fair chance to achieve it. No one should have to struggle as much as I did just to reach their destiny. I’ve walked a tough path—navigating a system where survival often favours the connected, not the competent. But I believe we can change that,” Salasya said on May 31, 2025.
“As I work hard and smart toward becoming the first youthful president in 2027, my commitment is to open up opportunities for all.”
