Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has mocked President William Ruto over his recent remarks about promoting tourism by showcasing the remains of early man.

The legislator, known for his dramatic statements, said Ruto was better suited for the role of an ambassador because of his storytelling skills, which he claimed were more suited for marketing than leadership.

In a statement posted on his Instagram account on Thursday, July 24, 2025, Salasya laughed off the president’s pitch, saying he would appoint him as an ambassador once he becomes president in 2027.

“😄 🤣 😂 😆 😄 🤣 😂 😆 😄 🤣 😂 eeeeeei lakini huyu nikiwa rais 2027 nitamurudisha akuwe ambassador, akuwe akiwadanganya wazungu huko wakuje utalii Kenya juu sasa hii kazi ya kudanganya anaeza fanya vizuri kuliko uongozi. He will just promise you heaven and give you hell,” Salasya stated.

Loosely translated to:

“Eeeeeei, but this guy — when I become president in 2027, I’ll appoint him as an ambassador so he can go lie to the foreigners and bring them here as tourists, because this job of lying, he can do it better than leadership. He will just promise you heaven and give you hell.”

His remarks came shortly after President Ruto addressed the media at the Maasai Mara ahead of the annual wildebeest migration. In his speech, Ruto made a passionate appeal to promote Kenya as a top global tourism destination, referencing both the natural wonders of the Maasai Mara and the country’s deep historical significance.

The President said he would personally take the lead in showcasing where the remains of the earliest human beings on earth were discovered, reinforcing Kenya’s identity as the cradle of humankind.

“People do not visit Kenya; they come back to Kenya because this is the home of humankind. Next time, I will showcase where the earliest remains of the first man on earth are,” Ruto said.

The president was speaking during a special ceremony organised along the Mara River to mark the start of the migration season. He praised the spectacle of the wildebeest migration as a reflection of Kenya’s strength, spirit, and natural beauty.

“We are gathered here in the Maasai Mara, a place where the world thrives and land breathes, and nature puts on her best performance. This is the theatre of the great wildebeest migration, one of the world’s most awe-inspiring and mesmerising natural wonders. One that has earned its place among the new seven wonders of the world,” Ruto said.

Adding;

“Every year, millions of wildebeests cross vast, unforgiving terrain in search of something better. They face danger, hunger, and uncertainty, but they press on. In their journey, we see the story of Kenya. Like them, we have often faced adversity, but we keep moving, we adapt, we rise, we up the game and we push forward together.”
