Salasya banks on principles over popularity in quest for presidency

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has slammed his critics, saying that he will rise to the top seat through principles, just like he did when he won his parliamentary seat.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, May 10, 2025, Salasya said his presidential journey is built on solid values and a genuine connection with Kenyans, not political godfathers or deep pockets.
“I won the election as MP of Mumias East based on principles while addressing Malindi residents. And I’m winning the presidency based on principles. Let them speak as I continue hitting the ground harder,” he said.

UDA project
Earlier, Salasya dismissed allegations that he is a project of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or any government agency. He said he is not being funded by the state and denied ever receiving money from any government official.
His remarks came as questions have been raised about the source of funding for his widespread tours across the country. Some Kenyans on social media have questioned how the first-term lawmaker can afford to travel widely, given that he has publicly shared his payslip showing a modest income.
“Let me be crystal clear, for the avoidance of doubt: I am not a UDA project. I am not funded by the State House. I have never received a single cent, let alone Ksh 40 million, from Katoo Ole Metito or any government official. Full stop,” he said.
The MP, who is affiliated with the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), insisted that his national tours are powered by strategy, goodwill, and the support of ordinary Kenyans who believe in his leadership.
“What you’re witnessing isn’t money at work. It’s pure strategy, unmatched charisma, and massive goodwill from Kenyans who believe in the future I represent,” he explained.
Salasya, who has been on a meet-the-people tour in regions such as Western and Coastal Kenya, said his mission is to unite Kenyans and offer bold, transformative leadership. He emphasised that he is a servant leader who values integrity and transparency.
He also defended his record in Mumias East, stating that every cent of the NG-CDF funds has been used for tangible and impactful development projects.
“Let me be very firm: not a single cent of Mumias East CDF has been misused. Not even a shilling. Our projects are visible, trackable, and transformative. Ask the students, the schools, the hospitals, and the parents on the ground. We’re delivering, not looting,” he said.
Salasya maintained that he is not an ordinary politician and vowed to continue his push for the presidency despite the criticism.
“You can’t stop this movement with gossip. You can’t slow down this fire with fear. This train has no brakes,” he said.
Adding;
“Kenya deserves bold leadership. Kenya deserves fearless voices. And that’s exactly what I bring. 2027 – it’s Peter Kalerwa Salasya, the 6th,” he concluded.
