President William Ruto now says his new cabinet is meant to unite all Kenyans.

Speaking on Saturday, July 27, 2024, the president asserted that the point of reconstituting his cabinet is to promote unity in the country to enhance prosperity.

He particularly pointed out that with the new cabinet which includes leaders from the opposition, Kenyans from all political divides will come together in unity to address and manage challenges grappling the nation.

“…Na ndio sababu juzi nimeweka baraza la mawaziri ya kuwaunganisha wakenya kutoka sehemu zote, kwa sababu waswahili wanasema umoja ni nguvu. Tuungane ndio tukabiliane na changamoto za Kenya, tupange maendeleo pamoja,” the Head of State said.

Ruto forwarded the list of his cabinet nominees earlier this week days after he dissolved his cabinet to pave room for the formation of a broad-based government.

The list comprised some former CSs and a section of opposition leaders among others.

Those retained from his former cabinet include; Aden Duale (Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry), Kithure Kindiki (Ministry of Interior and National Administration), Davis Chirchir (Ministry of Roads and Transport), Alice Wahome Alice Wahome (Lands, Public Works Housing and Urban Development), Soipan Tuya (Ministry of Defence), and Rebecca Miano (Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife), Alfred Nganga Mutua (Ministry of Labour and Social Protection), Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen (Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports) and Justin Bedan Njoka (Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development).

Opposition leaders nominated include; John Mbadi Ng’ongo( National Treasury and Economic Planning), Hassan Ali Joho (Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs), Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya (Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development), and James Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum).
