President William Ruto has come out strongly, daring anyone attempting to remove him from office through unlawful means before 2027 to proceed with their plans if they wish.

While addressing a roadside rally in Kilimani during the launch of an affordable housing project on July 9, 2025, the president appeared visibly angry as he responded to those he claimed were plotting to unseat him. He warned them that they would soon learn the consequences of their actions, emphasising that Kenya is a democratic nation where only the people have the power to decide who becomes head of state.

Niliona ati wanasema ati hawataongojea 2027 ati tupige kura, ati wanataka kupanga fujo, ati wapange maandamano, ati wachome mali ya watu, ati walete maafa Kenya, ati ndio wapindue serikali ya Kenya kabla ya 2027. Hii ni Kenya ya demokrasia. Hamwezi tuambia ati mtatumia fujo kupindua serikali. Mtajua hamjui hii ni nchi ya demokrasia na wananchi ndio wataamua,” Ruto said.

He accused certain individuals of planning to use violence and protests to overthrow the government through unconstitutional means, stating that such actions would be met with serious consequences. Ruto dared them to go ahead with their schemes, asserting that such attempts would not succeed in Kenya.

“Let me tell those characters – the ones who are giving us lectures – that they can change this administration using unlawful means and violence before 2027. Let them try,” he added.

He also criticised those comparing him to former President Moi, stating that Moi was simply a president like any other and should not be used as a reference to justify any form of political intimidation or mischief.

Unajua wananiambia sijui nini, sijui Moi, alikuwa raisi wa Kenya vile Kibaki, alikuwa raisi wa Kenya,” he stated.

Warning against chaos

In the same gathering, President Ruto also condemned those who have taken advantage of recent protests to destroy businesses, harm police officers, and threaten the country’s stability.

He warned that any individual who attacks a police station or assaults law enforcement officers will face severe consequences under the full force of the law.

“Anyone who picks up petrol to burn someone else’s business or any other person’s property—such a person should be shot in the leg, taken to hospital, and then presented in court,” he said.

“And I want to tell Kenyans clearly—anyone who attacks a police officer, anyone who invades a police station—that is a declaration of war in the Republic of Kenya. I do not know if we are understanding each other, my friend. Enough is enough. It cannot go on any longer,” he added.

The president vowed to fulfill his constitutional responsibility to protect the lives, property, and livelihoods of all Kenyans.
