President William Ruto has declared that he has no reason to fall short in fulfilling his pledges to Kenyans, saying he possesses the perfect combination of age, academic qualifications, and political experience to lead the country effectively.

Speaking on Friday, August 15, 2025, during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties, Ruto stressed that unlike some of his predecessors who could attribute underperformance to factors such as age, limited education, or lack of political exposure, he does not have such limitations.

“I have a PhD, I have served three terms as a Member of Parliament, and I was Deputy President for 10 years. I cannot use lack of experience or education as an excuse,” he said, adding that he took up the presidency fully aware of the challenges ahead but determined to deliver transformative change.

He contrasted his situation with that of founding President Jomo Kenyatta, who took office in his seventies, and others who lacked advanced academic credentials.

Ruto said his administration is equipped with the skills, energy, and political will needed to push Kenya toward greater economic and social progress.

Political Context in Nyamira

The meeting also precedes three ward by-elections set for November 27 in Nyamira County, Nyansiongo in Borabu Constituency, Ekerenyo in North Mugirango, and Nyamaiya in West Mugirango. Nyansiongo is notably the birthplace of Dr. Matiang’i.

Ruto used the platform to rally support for his administration’s agenda, urging local leaders to focus on unity and development.

He assured the delegation that his government would prioritize key infrastructure projects, boost agricultural productivity, and address youth unemployment.

“I have the energy, I have the skills, and I have the experience. Let me do this job so Kenya can be transformed,” he told the leaders.

The President’s remarks come at a time when the Gusii region is perceived to be warming up to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who has publicly hinted at a presidential run.
