Kenya Kwanza leaders, led by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruyot, launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his opposition allies on Sunday, September 29, 2025, accusing them of peddling falsehoods and attempting to derail the government’s agenda.

‎‎Speaking during a political gathering in Kericho County, the leaders rallied behind President William Ruto, insisting that he has lived up to his campaign promises despite persistent criticism from the opposition.

They argued that Ruto’s administration has implemented bold reforms that are gradually improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

This comes as opposition leaders criticised the Kenya Kwanza administration over the high cost of living during a rally in Kitengela.

‎Belgut MP Nelson Koech dismissed claims that the government has failed, citing the Affordable Housing Programme as a landmark initiative.

He revealed that President Ruto had earned international recognition for the project during his recent visit to the United States, a sign that Kenya’s development agenda was being noticed globally.

‎“I was with the president in America, and the first thing that was addressed by presidents from other countries was to congratulate him for according low-income earning Kenyans a decent way of living through affordable housing,” Koech said.

Cost of living

‎Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Energy Alex Wachira echoed the sentiments, arguing that the government has eased the cost of living by subsidising farm inputs, reducing fuel prices, and stabilising the shilling against the dollar.

According to Wachira, these interventions have shielded Kenyans from the harsh economic shocks witnessed in recent years.

‎The leaders also took issue with Gachagua, who was impeached last year, after he claimed that opposition figures had been approached to join the government but declined.

Gachagua, now aligned with the United Opposition movement, has announced that the coalition will front a single candidate to challenge Ruto in the 2027 general election.

‎Kenya Kwanza leaders dismissed the remarks as empty rhetoric, maintaining that the opposition has no concrete policy alternatives for the country. They vowed to stand firmly behind Ruto, saying his government remains committed to transforming the economy and uplifting millions of Kenyans.
