Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga, hit the ground running after jetting back from Dubai where he had gone for treatment.

The opposition chief landed in Nairobi on Sunday night at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where he was received by members of his family and senior ODM politicians.

Among those who were at the JKIA to receive Raila were his wife, Ida, daughter Rosemary, brother Dr. Oburu Oginga, ODM chairman John Mbadi and Siaya Senator James Orengo.

Raila was accompanied to Nairobi by Mombasa Governo Hassan Joho, who is also the ODM deputy party leader and Suna East MP John Mbadi.

The two leaders had earlier flown to Dubai aboard the specially chartered private jet that had caused a stir online because of the photos they uploaded before departing Nairobi.

Raila’s family had informed the public that the opposition chief had travelled to Dubai for a minor surgery.

Following his arrival, Raila met several ODM leaders, among them Mbadi, Orengo and Edwin Sifuna and some government officials at his Karen home on Monday.

He is strong. You don’t want to put Raila in a situation where he goes back to the office and it is going to be crowded,” said Mbadi, who confirmed that the ODM leader will operate from his Karen home for two weeks as he recovers fully.

A source close to the ODM leader told People Daily that Raila is preparing to join President Uhuru Kenyatta to receive the Building Bridges Report in a virtual session broadcast live.

Another source close to the family said the ODM leader was keen to limit interactions in compliance with safety protocols against Covid-19 to ensure social distancing as he continues to recuperate.

“Baba is in Nairobi where he is expected to spend the coming days. State House will announce the next move on the BBI activities by the principals. But he will take time to rest because political gatherings are banned but will hold virtual meetings with other leaders in Kenya and Africa,” said one MP.
