PS Mary Muthoni warns Kenyans against consuming uninspected meat

The Principal Secretary (PS) for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, has raised an alarm over the increasing consumption of uninspected meat in the country.

In a press briefing on Sunday, September 7, 2025, the PS directed the health officials to conduct a thorough inspection and reinforce the Public Health Protocols.

“There were twelve households with 32 individuals that were affected. They were hospitals, and there is no cause for alarm because they are being treated,” she said.

“ I cautioned members of the public that any suspected or any meat from an animal that is not inspected is not for consumption, and let us be serious about this.”

Her remarks come just a day after at least thirty people in Nyamira County were hospitalised for eating contaminated meat in Nyamira County.
