Officers from Rabuor Police Station in Kisumu County conducted a successful raid in Alendu Village, Kochieng West Location, on 1 June 2025, recovering three sacks of cannabis sativa.

The operation, prompted by a tip-off from the public, targeted the homestead of John Ahanyo Nyadianga, where the illicit drugs were found packed in rolls.

The consignment is now in secure custody as police continue their investigations.

The National Police Service (NPS) praised the community’s role in the operation’s success.

“The vigilance and cooperation of the public were instrumental in this seizure,” a spokesperson for the NPS said in a statement on Monday.

“Such partnerships are vital in our fight against illegal narcotics.”

The raid stresses the NPS’s reliance on intelligence-led policing to combat drug trafficking, a persistent challenge in the region.

Kisumu County, like many parts of Kenya, has seen increased efforts to curb the trade and consumption of illegal substances.

Cannabis, commonly known as bhang in Kenya, remains a marked concern due to its widespread use and distribution. The NPS’s swift action in Alendu Village accentuates their ongoing campaign to disrupt drug networks.

Just days earlier, on Friday, May 30, 2025, a similar operation in Kwale County led to the arrest of a suspect and the seizure of six sacks of cannabis sativa in Makina Chini Village.

Officers from Mackinnon Road Police Station, acting on another public tip-off, recovered the narcotics from two separate rooms, alongside 73 cannabis sticks prepared for distribution.

The NPS has also targeted illicit alcohol in recent operations.

On 30 May 2025, officers in Nairobi’s Kibera area seized 2,350 litres of illicit brew, including 2,000 litres of Kangara and 350 litres of Chang’aa.

These operations are part of the NPS’s broader campaign to disrupt drug and illicit alcohol networks.

“We remain dedicated to fostering a safe and drug-free society for all Kenyans,” the NPS affirmed.
