A police officer on Tuesday, January 11 shot and wounded a civilian outside a local bank in Imenti South, Meru County before surrendering to his bosses.

In a report seen by K24 Digital, Roy Muchiri shot the civilian identified as Pharis Karani Gitobu on his leg following a disagreement outside the bank.

The matter was reported by one Robert Kabetu who is attached to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU).

Members of the public and a section of police officers attached to Nkubu Police Station rushed the injured who had been shot on the left ankle to Consolata Mission Hospital.

Medical personnel at the facility then decided to admit him as he needed urgent medical attention.

After the incident, Muchiri surrendered to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Nkubu Police station.

“He was disarmed and the firearm was taken to the station’s armoury where it was kept as an exhibit,” the report read in part.

The police officer was arrested and placed in the station’s cells and investigations kicked off.

K24 Digital has established that officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are planning to capture a statement from the victim in order to ascertain what led to the action.
