PHOTOS: Ruto tends to dairy work after Japan trip

President William Ruto on Sunday, August 24, 2025, swapped his trademark suits for gumboots as he attended to dairy work at his Koilel farm in Uasin Gishu County.
Fresh from his official trip to Japan, where he held high-level talks on trade, investment, and development cooperation, the Head of State was pictured inspecting the dairy section of his expansive farm.
The photos circulated on social media showed the president engaging in routine farm activities, underscoring his long-standing passion for agriculture.

Ruto, a trained scientist and farmer, has previously highlighted agriculture as the backbone of Kenya’s economy, promising to modernise the sector and support smallholder farmers.
His visit to Japan focused on securing technology and investment opportunities, particularly in manufacturing, health, and energy.
However, returning to Koilel, he appeared keen to demonstrate that despite his international engagements, farming remains central to his identity.
Agriculture close to heart
Ruto has often reminded Kenyans of his background in poultry and dairy farming, using it as an example of hard work and resilience.
In past public addresses, the president has emphasised the need for sustainable food systems and increased dairy productivity, calling on farmers to adopt modern methods to boost output.

The Koilel outing came just days after Ruto’s visit to Japan, where he attended the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) and held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
During the discussions, President Ruto secured a yen-denominated loan and fresh aid commitments from Japan. The agreement includes up to 25 billion yen ($169.42 million) in Samurai financing to Kenya, directed towards strengthening the country’s vehicle assembly and energy sectors.
Ruto concluded key bilateral agreements with Japanese leaders, including support for Kenya’s infrastructure projects and green energy transition.
