Passaris congratulates Orwoba’s successor, urges her to champion oversight

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has extended her congratulations to Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi after she was officially sworn in as a Nominated Senator under the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a message shared on her X account on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Passaris commended Wakwabubi for her strong academic and professional background in Public Administration and Project Planning, noting that such expertise will be instrumental in strengthening the Senate’s legislative and oversight mandate.
She observed that Wakwabubi steps into the role at a critical moment, taking over from Gloria Orwoba, who was recently expelled.
According to Passaris, the new senator is expected to bring a fresh sense of focus, discipline, and results-oriented leadership that will not only enrich debates in the Senate but also positively impact the broader governance landscape in the country.
“A huge congratulations to Hon. Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi on being sworn into the Senate today. With her strong background in Public Administration and Project Planning, I am confident Hon. Wakwabubi will bring immense value to the Senate’s oversight role. Taking over following Gloria Orwoba’s expulsion, I believe Hon. Wakwabubi will inject the focus, discipline, and results that our Senate and indeed our country needs,” Passaris stated.
Sworn in
Wakwabubi officially took the oath of office on Wednesday after being gazetted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on August 15 as the replacement for former Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba.
During the ceremony, which was presided over by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, Wakwabubi pledged her loyalty to the Constitution and the people of Kenya.
“I, Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi, having been elected a member of the Senate, do swear in the name of the Almighty God, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the people and the Republic of Kenya, that I will obey, respect, uphold, preserve, protect and defend this Constitution of the Republic of Kenya, and that I will faithfully and conscientiousness discharge the duties of a Member of Parliament. So help me, God,” she declared.
Wakwabubi’s entry into the Senate follows the expulsion of Gloria Orwoba from UDA. Orwoba was struck from the party register, a move that automatically cost her the seat.
