Parts of 13 counties set for power blackout on Thursday, October 2

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a scheduled power interruption that will affect parts of 13 counties on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

In a public notice issued via social media on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the utility company stated that the blackout will occur between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm in the most affected areas, as engineers conduct essential network maintenance and upgrades.

The blackout will be experienced in parts of Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Kericho, Makueni, Busia, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Meru, Kiambu, Mombasa, and Taita Taveta counties.

Uasin Gishu

In Uasin Gishu County, the areas of Kitingia, Burnt Forest, Kapkoi, Bayete, Ndungulu, Kaptega, Sengalo, Chereber, Ngarua, and Ainabkoi will be affected from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

“Kerita, Kapkoi, Bayete, Kitingia, Cherus, Ndungulu, Kaptega, Kapsundei, Sengalo, Chereber, Kapchorwa, Ndanai, Ngarua, Kondoo, Kapkeno, Languse, Kaptega Cheboror, Ainabkoi & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power stated.

Nandi County

Nandi is the only county that will have a few affected areas on Thursday, 2 October 2025. According to Kenya Power, the blackout will affect Emrok and its environs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Trans Nzoia

Mois Bridge Centre, NCPB, Matunda, Milimani, Conbelt Grain Millers, and the surrounding areas will be affected by the blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Kericho County

In Kericho, the areas set to be affected are Kipchimchim, Laliet Quarry, Taiwet Factory, and Toror Tea Factory.

Makueni

The whole of the Kaumoni area will be hit by the blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Kaumoni, Itangini, Kikima, Tawa Market, Kiteta, Kalawani, and Mbooni schools.

“AREA: WHOLE OF KAUMONI DATE: Thursday 02.10.2025 TIME: 9.00 Α.Μ. – 5.00 Ρ.Μ. Itangini, Kaumoni, Mbumbuni, Kikima, Tawa KMTC, Tawa Mkt, Uvaani, Kiteta, Wanzauni, Kalawani, Mbooni Boys & Girls, Nzeveni, Kyuu & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power stated.

Busia County

Busia Town, Busia County Referral Hospital, the KPLC Office, and government offices will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Kirinyaga

In Kirinyaga County, Mutira Girls, Karaini, Riakiana Market, Kabonge, and surrounding villages will be affected.

“AREA: MUTIRA GIRLS, JS MATHENGE DATE: Thursday 02.10.2025 TIME: 9.00 Α.Μ -5.00 P.M. Mutira Girls, Kathiti Mutira, Karaini C/Fact, Riakiana Mkt, Kiangige Village, Kabonge, Hukoni Village, Kiaragana Mkt, Karuku TBC & adjacent customers,” KPLC announced.

Murang’a

Muchungucha, Kiria, Ndutumi, Yamugwe, and Gaitega will be affected.

Nyeri County

Kiamathambo, Narumoru Girls, Kamune, Thuita, Iruri Market, St Anne’s Kiambugi Secondary, and neighbouring villages will be hit by the blackout from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Karkuret Retreat Centre, Narumoru Girls, Bagdad, Judea, Meere, Mbogoini A & B areas will also be affected.

Other areas to be affected in Kiambu are Kamune Market, Riakiberu coffee factory, Kamune Safaricom Booster, Iruri Market, Karugiro coffee factory, Gachirago coffee factory, Thuita Market, Githanga Secondary School, Geitwa Market, St Anne’s Kiambugi Secondary School, and adjacent customers.

Meru County

Nchiru, Meru University of Science and Technology, Kagaene, Kithiri Polytechnic, Mbeu Sub-District Hospital, and Machangene are some of the areas that will be affected in Meru County.

Nchiru, Meru University of Science and Technology, Cedar Hotel, Mwithanga, Kanthiari, Uringu, Kamaroo, Mwathene Dispensary, Kimachia Sec, Kamaruki, Kagaene Shopping, Kithiri Polytechnic, Kimirii Centre, Mbeu Sub-District Hosp, Kaamu Pri, Kiliati Mixed Sec, Machangene & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power stated.

Kiambu

In Kiambu County, the areas that will be hit by the blackout are Zambezi, Sigona, Kamwangi Market, Ndekei Secondary, Ngorongo Dispensary, Igegania Hospital, and surrounding trading centers.

Other areas to be affected are Ngethu Lower Camp, Kariuki Muiruri, Ngorongo Dispensary, Ngorongo Mkt, Ndekei Secondary, Dry Village, Kariua, Kamwangi DC’s, Kamwangi Market, Kairi Market, Nguna Village, Nyamathumbi, Karuri, Igegania Hospital, Banguro, Nyamagara, Mukuyuini, Kang’oo, Mukurwe, Gatei, Kanjuku, Watathii, Gathaiti, Mbici, Ruburi, Mbogoro, Karera Village, Kagumoini, Ritho Village, Icaciri Secondary, Karingaini Village, and adjacent customers.

Mombasa

Part of Buxton and Tudor, Naivas Saba Saba, Afrigas, Ronald Ngala Primary, Railways Club Mombasa, and nearby businesses.

Taita Taveta

The whole of Maktau, Sarova Saltlick Lodges, Lumo Lions Bluff Conservancy, Voyager Hotels, Ziwani Farm, Langatenyi, and Godoma.
