Oparanya asks young people to grab opportunities in govt

The Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSME Development, Wycliffe Oparanya, has requested the youth to take seriously the opportunities the government has provided for them.
Speaking at Masinde Muliro University Grounds in Kakamega County on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, during the commemoration of International Youth Day, CS Oparanya first thanked President William Ruto for investing heavily in young people.
“I want to thank you (Ruto) for the good work you are doing. Our youth have something to do. You are heavily investing in the youth population,” Oparanya said.
Oparanya’s caution
Turning his message directly to the youth, Oparanya encouraged them to value the chances they receive.
“To the youth, take the opportunity that comes your way seriously. It will never come again,” he said.

He reminded them that youth is a temporary stage in life. “Being a youth is a transition. You have 17 years to transit, from youth to the other brackets,” he explained.
Government openings for youth
The Cabinet Secretary noted that there are many openings within government programs designed specifically for young people.
“There are so many opportunities in government the President has created for the youths,” he said, pointing to various initiatives and projects meant to empower them economically and socially.
He urged young people not to let these opportunities slip away through inaction or lack of interest.
Also, Oparanya stressed that those who take advantage of the available programs stand a better chance of improving their lives and contributing to national development.
Oparanya appealed to the youth to be proactive, reminding them that seizing opportunities is the first step to success.
“When the government invests in you, it is because we believe you can use that chance to grow and also help others,” he said.
He concluded by saying that young people have a special place in shaping the future of Kenya, and that making use of the opportunities now will determine how prepared they are for leadership and responsibility in years to come.
