Nyando Member of Parliament Jared Okello has blasted the opposition for forming a coalition with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Okello stated that Gachagua lacks national ethos and cannot lead the nation.

“He is a certified tribalist. When he talked about shares, he meant that the government was to be for Kalenjinis and Kikuyus only. Anything that Gachagua will lead, including the Wamunyoro outfit, will lead, Kenyans will reject, and they have started rejecting in total,” Okello said during an interview with a local TV station.

This comes a day after the former DP hosted his opposition allies at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County as momentum builds for the 2027 general elections.

Those in attendance includes Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, People’s Liberation Partry leader Martha Karua and former interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’I, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, former cabinet secretaries Mithika Linturi and Justin Muturi, former MP Kabando wa Kabando among others.

“We will make big sacrifices for this country beyond personal goals and ambitions for the sake of our children. Our country must prosper with a great promise to clean our country from the dealers,” Gachagua said on his X account on May, 4 2025 after hosting the opposition leaders.

“How can a nation so promising like Kenya be frustrated through the callousness and carelessness of outdated imperialism? How can we have leaders so deafly fail to listen to the cries and economic pains crushing over 50 million of us who pay taxes faithfully, work hard to put food on our tables?” he added.

The leaders are expected to issue a joint statement on Matiang’i’s 2027 presidential bid as they rally behind his candidacy.

On his part, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka called upon  Kenyans, especially the youth, to unite and agree on the next president.

“To our fellow Kenyans, especially our youth, our door is not closed. It is wide open. At the right time, we will agree on who will lead us. What we all are clear about is that Ruto will be a one-term president,” he said.

This comes days after Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i officially declared his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election during a homecoming event at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.
