Ndindi Nyoro among MPs moved in National Assembly committee reshuffle

The National Assembly has approved a major reshuffle in its committee memberships, with key legislators including Ndindi Nyoro and Shakeel Shabbir taking on new roles as part of the changes.
The realignment follows a motion moved by the Majority Whip, Silvanus Osoro, which was adopted by the House during the plenary sitting held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Under the new arrangement, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been moved from the Budget and Appropriations Committee to the Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee. His previous slot in the influential Budget Committee has now been filled by Edwin Mugo Gichuki.
In another notable shift, Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir has been appointed to serve on the Committee on Powers and Privileges. He joins Jane Njeri Maina in the committee, taking over from John Bwire and James Oyoo, respectively.

“The National Assembly has approved changes to its committee memberships. This follows a motion moved by the Majority Whip, Hon. Silvanus Osoro, which was adopted by the House on Tuesday, July 29th 2025,” the National Assembly wrote on X.
The reshuffle also addresses vacancies left by deceased lawmakers. Bensuda Joyce Atieno Osogo has taken up the position formerly held by the late Charles Ong’ondo Were in the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation.
Separately, Peter Ochieng’ Orero has been appointed to the Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity, also stepping into a slot left vacant by the late Were.
Among other changes, Muiruri Muthama Stanley replaces Chepkwony Charity Kathambi in the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, while Kathambi, in turn, joins the Committee on Implementation, effectively swapping roles with Muthama.
“In the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation, Hon. Muiruri Muthama Stanley replaced Hon. Chepkwony Charity Kathambi, while Hon. (Dr.) Bensuda Joyce Atieno Osogo was appointed to fill the slot left vacant by the late Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were,” the National Assembly added.

In the Departmental Committee on Labour, Njoroge Mary Wamaua now replaces Liza Chelule Chepkorir.
Chelule has been reassigned to the Departmental Committee on Regional Development, replacing Mary Emaase Otucho. Otucho has been moved to the Public Accounts Committee to fill the vacancy left by Geoffrey Kariuki Ruku, who was recently appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service.
Meanwhile, John Okano Bwire has been moved to the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee, taking over the position left by CS Geoffrey Ruku.
Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai has been transferred to the Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee, succeeding Hon. Eric Muchangi Karemba.
MP Karemba, alongside Chuka Igamba Ng’ombe’s Patrick Munene Ntwiga, has now been placed in the Public Petitions Committee, replacing Ernest Ogesi Kagesi and Mbai, respectively.
Elsewhere, Leah Sopiato Sankaire has replaced Edwin Mugo Gichuki in the Departmental Committee on Tourism and Wildlife.
Further shifts include James Oyoo being moved to the Decentralised Funds Accounts Committee, replacing Joyce Bensuda Osogo.
“Hon. Anne Muratha and Hon. Peter Ochieng’ Orero joined the Committee on National Opportunity, Cohesion and Equal Opportunity, with Hon. Orero filling the slot left by the late Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were. Further realignments included Hon. James Oyoo replacing Hon. Joyce Bensuda Osogo in the Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee. Hon. Mary Emaase Otucho being appointed to the Public Accounts Committee to fill the vacancy left by Hon. Geoffrey Kariuki Ruku.”
