Kibwezi West MP has responded to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over the time his company were registered.

Speaking on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, during a parliamentary session, Mwengi, who has moved a motion to impeach the second in command, says he is not interested in when Gachagua’s companies were registered.

“I have listed a total of 22 companies that I believe the DP has been using to award himself through conflict of interest. I am not interested in the time the company were registered, I am interested in what the companies have done in the last two years,” Mutuse said.

Mutuse was responding to Gachagua who claimed that most of his companies were registered before he became the deputy president, and had nothing to do with the pilferage of public funds as alleged in the impeachment motion.

“Some of the companies that I have listed do not belong to Rigathi Gachagua but they belong to the estate of Nderitu Gachagua. It is true that he was one of the administrators of the estate of his late brother. It’s easy to hide behind the dead because they cannot come and give evidence,” Mutuse said.

“What the Deputy President has not told Kenyans is that in those two years, he is the one who has bought the properties of his own brother through coercion. I have no problem with people owning property but he needs to explain to us where he is getting the money to buy these properties.”

Gachagua’s companies

Among the companies listed in the impeachment motion include Spirit Way Limited, Mothers of the Land Limited, Ridor Furniture Mart Limited, Royal Crimson Ventures Limited, Rigathi Gachagua  Foundation, Calvary Creed International Limited, The Anansi Collective, Fortis Vis Group Limited, Pioneer Medical (K) Limited, Pioneer Medical (K) Limited, Crystal Kenya Limited, Karandi Farm Limited, and Technical Supplies and Services (K) Limited.

Speaking on Monday, Gachagua claimed that Vipingo Beach Resort Limited, which has also been listed, is owned by his late brother Nderitu Gachagua and his sons Kevin and Keith are directors on behalf of Nderitu’s estate.

Gachagua said another company, Biovet (k) Limited was incorporated in 2009 and has not traded for the last 15 years.

Gachagua is set to appear before parliament on Tuesday at 5 pm to defend himself against charges of gross misconduct, violations of the Constitution, and breaches of both Kenyan and international law.
