Mwengi Mutuse: Many Kenyans are happy Gachagua is no longer Deputy President

Kibwezi West Member of Parliament (MP) Mwengi Mutuse has defended his decision to move the motion that led to the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying most Kenyans support the move.
Speaking in an interview, Mutuse said he believes many citizens were relieved by Gachagua’s removal and that if a public poll were conducted today, the results would vindicate him.

“If a poll were done today asking how many Kenyans support Mutuse for impeaching Gachagua, you’d be surprised that many are happy Rigathi Gachagua is no longer their Deputy President,” he stated confidently.
Mutuse, who initiated and successfully championed the impeachment motion in Parliament before defending it in the Senate, said Gachagua’s recent controversial remarks have only confirmed that he was unfit for the office he once held.

“At a time when the world is advancing with artificial intelligence and high technology, someone was taking us backwards. I think I am vindicated,” he said.
Proud of his role
Mutuse said he takes pride in what he considers a patriotic act. “I am very proud of what we did because it was an assignment for this country,” he said.
“It is similar to what our founding fathers did in 1963 to free us from colonialism and what Raila Odinga and others did to liberate Kenya from dictatorship.”

The legislator revealed that since Gachagua’s impeachment, he has faced backlash, including the vandalism of his hotel in Makindu along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway during anti-government protests earlier this year.
However, he insists he remains fearless. “I will never be, and I am not a coward. For as long as I am clear in my conscience that what I’m doing is right and for Mother Kenya, I will never hesitate,” Mutuse said.
He concluded by saying that many Kenyans still appreciate his bold move, adding, “I did it for the good of the country now and for the future.”
