Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has addressed several issues ahead of the anticipated return of the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Addressing a section of the press on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Murkomen revealed that the country has so far been at peace since the former second in command and now the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader left the country for the United States.

Murkomen, who is currently in Murang’a County during the 30th Jukwaa la Usalama grassroots engagement, insisted that Gachagua’s return was not a threat; however, security officers are on standby.

“There are so many people landing in the country; why should we be worried about one person?” Murkomen stated.

Further adding, “In the last few weeks or a month, when he has not been around, the country has been very peaceful.”

Similarly, the Interior CS noted that the security agencies are ready in the case of a chaotic environment upon his arrival, which is expected to be on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

“And so you have a point that perhaps the security agencies should be prepared for a more chaotic environment as a result of his arrival back in the country,” Murkomen said.

“I wish Kenya remained peaceful like it was in the past four weeks,” Murkomen added.

A section of DCP leaders have announced plans to march from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to the Nairobi Central Business District to welcome Gachagua.

DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala told a section of the press on Monday, August 18, 2025, that they had notified the police of the planned march.

Murkomen reveals what awaits Gachagua

Worth noting,  Murkomen’s remarks come just days after he reiterated that Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua must honour the order to record a statement over his remarks on terrorism while in the United States.

Speaking on Monday, August 11, 2025, CS Murkomen maintained that Gachagua should avail himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement upon his return to Kenya from his US tour.

Gachagua has recently challenged President William Ruto to explain to Kenyans why he allegedly met with three Al-Shabaab militia at night to discuss “business.”
