Murang’a Woman Rep to Gachagua: We won’t be bullied
At an economic empowerment meeting in Kapseret Constituency, Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina didn’t hold back as she tore into former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“Mwanaume wa kutolewa juu hafai kuwa na kiburi, hakumaliza round moja, anajifanya Kenya mzima ni yeye atauzia wanaume wengine uoga. Tulimtoa kwa mate kama funza, kama hajui kumaliza round moja hatatufunza kumaliza round mbili,” Maina said.
In plain English, she meant: “A man kicked out of power shouldn’t be proud; he didn’t even finish one round, yet he acts like he can scare all other men in the whole of Kenya. We got rid of him, he won’t teach us how to finish two.”
Maina’s words, delivered with a mix of humour and sting, were a direct jab at Gachagua’s impeachment.
The phrase ‘one round’ cleverly referred to his incomplete term as Deputy President, while “tulimtoa kwa mate kama funza” painted a vivid picture of his swift removal from office.
Maina defends the government
Adding a personal twist, Maina is married to Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, elected in 2022, from Gachagua’s home county of Nyeri, making her bold critique even more striking.
A staunch supporter of President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Maina has consistently backed Ruto’s agenda, advocating for grassroots development and party unity.
The Kapseret meeting, aimed at boosting local youth and women through economic initiatives like small business support, gave Maina a platform to rally the community.
She urged them to stay united and ignore politicians who stir division, particularly those in the opposition.
Looking ahead, Maina dismissed the opposition’s attempts to challenge Ruto’s broad-based leadership as the 2027 elections approach.
“Gachagua cannot threaten us with one term when he didn’t even finish his,” she told the crowd, reinforcing her loyalty to UDA’s vision.
Her call for unity and development over political drama resonated strongly, earning cheers from the audience
