Mosiria vows to rescue boy forced to fake disability for begging

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has vowed to rescue a young boy who was reportedly forced to pretend to be disabled in order to beg for money on the streets.

This is after a video went viral on social media in which a group of people in Kiserian, Kajiado County, had exposed the young boy for faking disability to beg for money from sympathetic Kenyans.

After cornering the boy, he finally walked, bringing the fake disability syndicate to the limelight.

Larger syndicate

Taking to his official social media accounts on Thursday, November 27, 2025, Mosiria described the incident as part of a larger syndicate exploiting vulnerable children.

Mosiria, who was recently moved from the environment docket in Nairobi City County’s latest changes, condemned the practice, emphasising that children involved in street begging rarely act alone.

MBOKA NI MBOKA LAKINI HII HAPANA! It’s unfortunate that this young man had to pretend to be disabled in order to beg for money. When a child is forced to do this, it is clear that someone is behind the syndicate. These people should have asked him to show them the person controlling him so that the boy could be rescued and taken to a safe children’s home,” Mosiria stated.

Food support

He further urged the public not to give money to street children, particularly those who may be forced into such situations. Instead, he encouraged providing food or supporting initiatives that place children in safe environments where they can receive proper care and education.

“I have always said that these children do not operate alone-there are people behind them, and it is a big cartel. Before you sympathise with street families, especially those pretending or being forced to beg, understand that there are cartels exploiting them. Do not give them money; give them food,” Mosiria wrote on X.

“And if you truly want to help, support them to get into a safe home where they can receive care, love, and live with dignity. I am looking for this young man so that we can place him in a children’s home, ensure he goes to school, and help him build a better future.”
